Sonny McCutcheon has extensive experience working with individuals, families, friends and colleagues to help facilitate the necessary changes to break the downward-spiraling cycle of addictions or alcoholism. Born in Fort Worth and a graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU), Sonny began his own journey in recovery in 1987. After realizing his passion for helping individuals and families struggling with issues related to addiction, he returned to school at Southern University in New Orleans, becoming a Licensed Addiction Counselor in Louisiana (1992) and upon his coming home to Texas, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (2001). For the past thirty years, Sonny has worked in the field of addiction counseling, intervention and treatment.

An initial evaluation of a family’s situation or an individual’s issues with substances often provides clarity and direction to begin overcome the underlying problems associated with addiction. The road to recovery from addiction is positive, exciting and life-changing both for the individual and family members. There is no doubt that addiction can be overcome.

When necessary, as a skilled addiction interventionist, Sonny can successfully guide a families, friends and colleagues through the entire intervention process by applying a structured team-approach to helping an individual accept professional care and enter an appropriate treatment program.

Sonny has extensive knowledge, experience and close working relationships with addiction treatment resources, programs and professionals throughout Texas and across the country. Navigating addiction as well as appropriate addiction treatment resources can be confusing and overwhelming to the individual as well as family members. An initial consult can often be the catalyst to bring about positive steps in dealing with the myriad of problems associated with addiction.  At Fort Wellness Counseling, Sonny will be working with individuals, couples and families with problems related to alcohol abuse and substance abuse, and addiction.  Whether it is a problem with full blown and active addiction, or problems with binging that causes negative consequences, Sonny can help.
