SPECIALTY COUNSELING

The decision to seek addiction treatment is not accessible and requires a high level of trust. Building a therapeutic alliance with our clients is essential, and we don’t take that lightly.

Whether addiction counseling is new territory for you or you’ve been down the road of recovery before, no matter where you are on your path, we are here to help. So many substances or behavioral addictions can take hold of a person, making it incredibly difficult to let go. Addiction has the power to cause harm to yourself and others in your life.

We want you to know that it is possible to overcome addiction through treatment. You will learn valuable skills to regain control and repair any potential damage caused by your substance or behavioral addiction.

Substance Use Disorder

A substance use disorder diagnosis can range in severity. A few of the common types of substance use disorder addictions that we treat at Fort Wellness Counseling in Fort Worth include:

Alcohol Addiction
Marijuana Addiction
Opioid Addiction
Cocaine Addiction
Adderall Addiction
Other Stimulant Addiction

A behavioral addiction is when a person engages in a pleasurable activity excessively. Common types of behavioral addictions that we treat at Fort Wellness Counseling in Fort Worth include:

Porn Addiction
Gambling Addiction
Gaming Addiction
Internet Addiction
Shopping Addiction
Social Media Addiction
Video Game Addiction

Addiction often exists alongside other mental health conditions called cooccurring disorders, dual diagnosis, or coborbidity.

One doesn’t cause the other, but treatment with a trained addiction therapist can address both conditions. A co-occurring disorder or comorbidity occurs when a substance use disorder and mental health disorder exist simultaneously or one after the other. When someone has this, it’s not uncommon for one of the disorders to exasperate the other and vice versa.

Common disorders that often exist with addiction include anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and Trauma.

Addiction changes the brain and makes it challenging to quit. However, through consistent sessions with addiction counseling, you will learn how severe your addiction is and learn solutions, resources, and coping strategies for positive and healthy change. Addiction counseling can help create a higher quality of life, repair relationships, and improve overall health and wellness.
It is possible to break free from addiction and live your desired life. Taking control by starting your path to recovery is one of the best things you can do for your overall wellness.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Specialty Counseling for Trauma at Fort Wellness Counseling in Fort Worth, Texas

EMDR is a mental health intervention method that uses eye movement stimulation to help people heal from the emotional pain of traumatic life events. Furthermore, this type of therapy differs from talk therapy since it requires bilateral stimulation. It focuses directly on a specific memory and negative cognition to modify how the brain recalls it. When you encounter something that reminds you of past trauma, physically and mentally, it’s as if it is happening all over again. That’s because the brain doesn’t know the difference between the present moment and past unhealed trauma. Through EMDR treatment, exposure to the memories helps to reduce and often eliminate your negative response.

Eight phases of EMDR include:

History and Treatment Planning
Preparation
Assessment
Desensitization
Installation
Body Scan
Closure
Reevaluation

Common challenges that EMDR helps with include:

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Trauma
Stress Issues
Behavioral Addictions
Phobias
Panic Attacks
Anxiety
Substance Abuse
+and more

Brainspotting Therapy (BSP) Specialty Counseling Treatment for Trauma at Fort Wellness Counseling in Fort Worth, Texas

The founder of Brainspotting, David Grand, Ph.D., says, “Where you look affects how you feel.” Brainspotting therapy (BSP) is a type of therapy that is brain-based and utilizes points within a person’s visual field to access and treat unprocessed trauma.Dr. David Grand founded EMDR and then found advancements that resulted in the finding of BSP.

While EMDR and BSP both use bilateral stimulation, it is optional when it comes to BSP as it’s not required to make this method work. Additionally, EMDR requires the client to move the eyes from side to side while BSP locates a particular spot to focus on, also known as mindful focusing.

Common Issues Treated Through Brainspotting Therapy:

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Trauma Panic Disorders Chronic Pain Grief and Loss Sports Performance Creativity +And More

If talk therapy has not been as successful for you as you would like in dealing with past trauma, then Brainspotting may be worth trying.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) Specialty Counseling for Trauma at Fort Wellness Counseling in Fort Worth, Texas

ART is an evidence-based, rapid-eye-movement (REM) treatment for trauma, phobias, fears, self-esteem, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. It eliminates trauma symptoms, removes negative images and sensations from memory, and replaces them with positive images so they don’t trigger emotional and physical reactions. While you still have the memory, it’s no longer triggering emotionally or physically. Many people have experienced results within three to four sessions.

Common Issues Helped Through ART Therapy:

Anxiety
Depression
Panic Attacks
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
