Born in Fort Worth and a graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU), Sonny began his own journey in recovery in 1986. After realizing his passion for helping individuals and families struggling with issues related to addiction, he returned to school at Southern University in New Orleans, becoming a Licensed Addiction Counselor in Louisiana (1992) and upon his coming home to Texas, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (2001). For the past thirty years, Sonny has worked in the field of addiction counseling, intervention and treatment. In 2026, Sonny was awarded the Counselor of the Year award by the Texas Association for Addiction Professionals in Fort Worth, Texas. An initial evaluation of a family’s situation or an individual’s issues with substances often provides clarity and direction to begin overcome the underlying problems associated with addiction.
